Rodrigues Winery is located in Markland just off the TCH on Route 81, approximately 50 miles west of St. John’s, the capital city of Newfoundland. When a new medical clinic to service the area was built in 1986, Markland’s historic Cottage Hospital was purchased by Marie-France and Dr. Hilary Rodrigues–it was to be the future home of Newfoundland’s FIRST winery.

Extensive renovations took place and, from humble beginnings in 1993 with hand filtering, bottling and corking the wine, the first offering of 300 cases

of our flagship Exotique Wild Semi-Sweet Blueberry Wine was produced for the Newfoundland Liquor Commission. It was all sold out in less than a week.

In 1998, the Rodrigues Winery undertook a major $300,000 expansion. The production capacity is now 25,000 cases annually and permits export to new Canadian and International markets. Also in 1998, the

Kashruth Council of Toronto certified the Rodrigues Winery kosher and pareve COR530, the ONLY Canadian winery with this designation. And, in 2000 the Orthodox Union approved the equivalent designation in the United States . Certification ISO9002 accreditation is pending.

Marie-France and Dr. Hilary Rodrigues are very proud of their Newfoundland Family of Exotique Wines. Vinted from hand-picked, freshly harvested wild berries and fruit, the Rodrigues reputation for excellence in wine making is growing Internationally. Our wine labels represent the best expression of the natural fruit: grown in a true, pollution-free environment of clean soil, clean air and clean water.
